If we haven't answered your question here, please feel free to check our support site or send us an email with a suggestion.

  • What's the difference between CloudStor & CloudShare?

CloudStor is our unlimited backup product. It's as simple as that. Any and all selected files on your PC or Mac are replicated to our datacentres and secured. If you subsequently have a problem with your hard disk or accidentally delete files then those files are available for you to recover.  You CANNOT use CloudStor as an archive or an external hard disk. If you delete a file from your PC permanently then that deletion is replicated to your CloudStor after a period of time. We keep up to 30 versions of each protected file. However, you must at all times run the Excipere software on any computer that is being backed up and you must ensure this computer connects to the Internet at least once every 30 days. Excipere will remove backups for computers that have not connected to the service for 30 days.

CloudShare is our synchronisation and sharing product. It allows you to store your files in our datacentres, safe and secured. But, you can also share your files with family, friends, customers or anyone you care to share them with. You do NOT need to keep a copy of the file on your PC or Mac.

  • Why would I want CloudCentral?

There will always be an occasion where files are located on your computer and not in your CloudShare. These files are vulnerable, but would be protected by the backup element for ALL the systems in your package.

CloudCentral provides the fully automated, proactive, protective element of CloudStor AND the storage, synchronisation and sharing elements of CloudShare. You can protect and share your digital life, safe in the knowledge that it's secure and accessible.

  • Is there any limit to how much information I can backup?

    Absolutely not.

We offer unlimited backup. There is however a 2 Terabyte limit for each physically attached drive. So, if your system has a couple of 2 Terabyte drives attached and a 2 Terabyte internal disk they WILL ALL be backed up. We don't believe in messing around with 5GB packages -  they are just loss leaders and marketing hype.

Remember, that your CloudStor is unlimited and that it does NOT count towards any of your CloudShare allocation.

  • Can I backup Network Attached Storage Devices?

Of course you can, but we have to charge a small additional fee for these devices.

  • Why don't you have a free account package?

It's a common business practice to entice subscribers to use a service by providing free accounts. Typically, these get you to start using the service. The provider subsequently relies on the knowledge that you will undoubtedly use more than your free allocation or that your own perception of how difficult it will be to change providers to ensure that you will stay with the service. Invariably, your now free service will cost rather more than you bargained for.

Excipere just provide masses of capacity at a really good value. Yes, free is great, but the reality is that someone somewhere is paying for the free service which you use. Because we charge for all our services you can be assured that you are getting just really good value and are NOT subsidising users who want free accounts.

  • I need more space or more systems backed up. Can I do that?

Everyone has their own requirements. Maybe you want to protect more systems or just have loads of space? No problem. Just send us an email and we'll create the package you want.

  • Why does it take so long to do the first backup?

Bandwidth. No matter which service you choose to use, the one thing you will notice is how long the first batch of information takes to upload. You may have already experienced this when uploading videos to YouTube etc. There are a couple of things to consider. l Firstly, the speed of your internet connection is measured in Megabits per second (Mbps). This figure IS NOT the same as the amount of actual data you are trying to upload, which is measured in MegaBytes (MB).
l Secondly, the simple fact is that upload speeds are determined by your ISP. We're all used to seeing download speeds of "Up To" being advertised, but very rarely are upload speeds mentioned, if at all. l Finally, it doesn't matter which service you use. The upload bandwidth will be the same. So don't be fooled into thinking you will receive a faster service using someone else. To help you check your optimum upload / download speeds, we suggest you visit a testing web site such as SpeedTest. Take the results and multiply them by 128 to give you your KiloBytes per Second (KB/s) speed. If you put this into the Excipere bandwidth settings, you can then throttle up/down the various speeds as it suits both you and your internet connection. There are other considerations you need to be aware of such as any fair usage policy and the contention ratio. Again, both of these are controlled by your ISP. Excipere has no usage cap or bandwidth limitations You could also add files and folders in smaller chunks so that you don't have to wait. Once it's done though, subsequent backups are only on new or changed files and are done at a period of your choosing and are MUCH, MUCH faster. You can set the scans to run at a period of your choosing or in realtime when you save a file. Remember though, realtime scans can slow down your system. We would recommend trying it every hour or so and change it gradually to suit.
  • How secure is your system?

Our datacentres are located in different parts of the UK and are interlinked, replicated and balanced. Data is encrypted once it reaches our datacentre to 256-AES standard. It's military grade encryption. It's of a standard used by banks, governments and major commercial enterprises across the globe.

You can choose to encrypt your data before you back it up, but this takes time and again will slow down the backup process. Any information encrypted prior to reception at our datacentres will not be shareable due to the encryption on the data.

We can't access your stuff unless you share it with us.

  • Can I cancel at any time?

Absolutely. We want you to be happy with the service but if you wish to cancel, that isn't a problem. We will not retain your data so you MUST ensure that if you are using CloudShare or CloudCentral, that you recover ANY data from your CloudShare drive. BEFORE you cancel.

We do have a Termination Clause in our Terms & Conditions which we will ask you to read before signing up. We are transparent about these, so we want to bring your attention to the note below.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you cancel DURING the 10 day free trial period, no payment will be taken and we will cancel your subscription with immediate effect.

If you cancel AFTER the free trial period we WILL charge you 80% of the plan charge. We do this as there are costs involved in setting up, configuring and providing your Excipere account. Additionally, there are also payment fees we have to make in order to process your card payments. We will refund you with 20% of the plan charge. We will suspend your subscription with immediate effect. Please see the How do I cancel question below.

  • Why does it matter that your datacentres are in the UK?

Next time you go online, go and research USA Patriot Act 2001. It's quite alarming in a way and is effectively a backdoor to information held anywhere outside the USA: irrespective that the EU requires information stored in the EU to stay within the EU geographic boundaries. We've nothing to hide, but feel that nobody has a right to review your information without your permission or a court order issued by a judge in the EU.

With our datacentres being located in the UK and us as a UK company, Excipere is not obligated to comply with USA Patriot Act 2001. Additionally, as our datacentres are just that little bit closer to our subscribers across the EU, typical response times will be faster. Believe it or not, those few milliseconds make quite a lot of difference.

  • How do I cancel?

It's a fairly simple process of going to the cancellation page and fully completing the form. This will tell us you wish to stop your Excipere account. We will then suspend your account for TEN working days, just in case you change your mind. If you do wish to resume your service just send us an email or use the contact form and we will start everything back up for you. If however, we have not had any contact from you on the 11th day, we will close your account and organise any refund.

  • Why do I need to backup?

The problem with backup is that we rarely understand the need for it until it's too late. We can guarantee that somewhere on your computer there is at least ONE file that is worth more to you than either the value of our backup product or indeed your entire computer. It might just be a family photograph, a video, a spreadsheet or document. However, to lose it and not be able to retrieve it will be either financially or emotionally expensive. Probably both. This is why it is so important that you protect your information by backing it up. preferably to somewhere that isn't located on top of your computer or even in the same building.

It's also really easy to assume that your computer will just keep on working. However, like all machines, they have a habit of breaking down, often at critical times or when you need them most. Just imagine if you could save yourself all the aggrivation, let alone the financial implications.

  • Do you support LINUX?

Whilst LINUX isn't a core supported platform, you can use WebDAV to copy information to and from CloudCentral.
